EKILMP has recorded the baseline ecosystem values of nine East Kootenay lakes and aims to protect those community values through an
ecosystem-based approach. This ecosystem management approach emphasizes streamlining the regulatory process by risk managing projects based on the lake shore assessment, and the appropriate legislative tools that apply. A key component of the ecosystem approach to lake shore management is a monitoring program which measures the effectiveness of this innovative management plan and partnership. Monitoring took place on Windermere and Moyie lakes in 2010 and on Wasa and Columbia lakes in 2011. Rosen and Moyie lakes were completed September 2012.
